Stirling & Surrounds Leading Skin Needling

Skin Needling also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is the latest skin rejuvenation treatment to restore the healthy youthful appearance of your skin, with minimal or no downtime. DermaPen® is a registered trademarked device for skin needling. This modality was originally developed by plastic surgeons and dermatologists as a non-surgical method for tissue rejuvenation and regeneration. Skin Needling causes “micro-injuries” to the skin to trigger the healing and repair process.

Part of the body’s natural healing process is collagen synthesis (the making of collagen). Triggering the healing process means triggering the production of collagen. It is this production of collagen which acts to repair the damage to your skin: the result is a smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Skin Needling is much less invasive than lasers and aggressive chemical peels and doesn’t require the removal of the epidermis. As a result, the healing time is significantly shorter and there is no post-treatment sensitivity to UV light. Skin Needling is suitable for treating all skin types, including ethnic skin, and can be used to treat the fragile skin around the eyes, mouth and on all parts of the body.

What conditions are suitable for DermaPen® Skin Needling?

Principle of Skin Needling

DermaPen® Skin Needling causes microscopic breaks in the blood vessels immediately below the surface layer of the skin (epidermis). This action releases blood platelets that are responsible for blood clotting when, for example, when we cut ourself. The blood platelets release a series of growth factors that promote the production of collagen, elastin, growth factors and other substances. In turn, collagen and elastin help to tighten and smooth the skin.
DermaPen® Skin Needling uses a sterile, one-use-only pen-like device with adjustable fine surgical steel microneedles ranging from 0.25 mm to 2.5 mm in length. These microneedles penetrate the upper (epidermis) and lower (dermis) strata of the skin at targeted and specific depth, causing controlled microscopic wounds and pin point bleeding. This process elicits the body’s own wound healing response, which results in the release of cellular messengers that in turn increase fibroblast (collagen producing cells) activity. Prior to treatment a topical anaesthic is applied. DermaPen® is a quick treatment, therefore if minor discomfort is experienced (prickling sensation), it is for a minimal time frame.
After the procedure, your skin will be red and flushed I appearance, looking similar to a moderate sunburn. You will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch. This will diminish significantly within a few hours of treatment., and within 48 hours will be completely healed.
Visible signs of skin rejuvenation are seen just 6 – 8 weeks after the procedure and continue for up to a year.
A course of three DermaPen® treatments at 4– 6 weeks intervals, is usually recommended to achieve optimum results, however, great improvement can be noticed after just one treatment.
